Philosophy Minor Requirements

The Edgewood College Philosophy Minor program has three goals for its students. Students graduating with a minor in philosophy will demonstrate:

◊  Breadth of understanding in the major areas of philosophical studies.

◊  Depth of study of at least one philosophical theme or philosopher.

◊  The practice of engaged philosophy in a life of service for a just and peaceful world.

These goals are congruent with the college mission to offer a liberal arts education which develops intellect, spirit, imagination, and heart.

Minors are challenged to bring their whole selves to the study of philosophy. Opportunities for creative expression, soul searching, and empathetic engagement with others within and beyond the classroom are intentionally and consistently built into their studies.

Course themes, texts, speakers, and service learning opportunities are selected with the intentional inclusion of marginalized and diverse perspectives. Beyond coursework, projects and club activities keep minors grounded in world concerns.

Students wishing to minor in Philosophy at Edgewood College must complete eighteen credits of work, arranged between the Department and the student, including Philosophy 479 (Independent Study in Philosophy).

A minimum of nine credits must be completed at Edgewood.
