"No cause is left but the most ancient of all, the one, in fact, that from the beginning of our history has determined the very existence of politics, the cause of freedom versus tyranny."

~Hannah Arendt

WISCONSIN INSTITUTE FOR PEACE AND CONFLICT STUDIES

Very many (over 40) Edgewood Students have presented papers and workshops at Wisconsin Institute conferences since 2005 through Philosophy Department involvement. This is a greater student involvement than any of the other 22 colleges in the consortium.

Two of our minors, Sara Bodenberg and Sarah (Leiser) Van Lanen were selected as "Distinguished Student Scholars" in 2003. Sarah Leiser also won first place (twice) in the statewide essay contest (2003, 2004) sponsored by the Institute. Three other Edgewood philosophy students have also won awards in this contest over the past five years.

In 2003 Edgewood hosted the annual student conference under the leadership of Professor John Fields in which Edgewood students introduced & facilitated the workshop. Over 70 students presented panels & papers.
